FRIENDS AND PLANS

We all have friends who are amazing at making plans and those who are just straight up flakes. The word 'flaky' has been round for years but I feel it has become a lot more popular in recently. I wanna talk about the types of friends I have when it comes to making plans and whether it's okay to be flaky and why it is so much easier to be the flake nowadays.

The Always There Friend
These friends are the best at making plans. No matter what, if they can be there, they will. You can rely on them through anything whether you need cheering up, you're bored or you just wanna party. However, this puts a lot of pressure on you to be there for them as much as possible and if you can't you don't want to piss them off. If they're a good friend though, they will understand if you sometimes can't be there as much as you'd like.

The Straight Up 'Too Busy' Friend
Whenever you ask in the group chat if anyone wants to do something they will always reply the same thing 'Sorry, I'm busy'. Personally, I think you should always make time for your friends, especially the ones you haven't seen in a while. So the busy excuse doesn't really work for me every time. At least they're straight up from the beginning and don't dance around the fact they can't or don't want to do something.

Flaky
FLAKY: Adjective: An unreliable person. A procrastinator. A careless or lazy person. Dishonest and doesn't keep to their word. They'll tell you they're going to do one thing, and never do it. They'll tell you that they'll meet you somewhere, and show up an hour late or don't show up at all. Also spelled "flakey", or "flake" in the noun form.

These friends seem so excited about the plan over text then when it comes to the day they'll say they can't anymore, don't feel up for it or will straight up ignore you. It's so annoying when you make plans, get excited and then basically get let down that you wish they'd be more like the straight up too busy friend. Sometimes you really the need that friend to be there for you and it can put a massive strain on the friendship when they aren't.
However, sometimes I think it's okay to be flaky. There are times you really are looking forward to plans but are too tired, have too much work, or are suffering a mental health low when it comes to them. Pulling yourself out of bed and putting on a smile can be one of the biggest challenges but I find when I do, seeing my friend can make me feel a lot better.

The Far (Or Not So Far) Away Friend
They're kind of like really good long distance relationships. No matter how far apart you are, you still make an effort to talk to each other and try see each other. And when you do it's like no time has passed, you just might be more tanned or with another tattoo or piercing. You make lots of these friends when you're at uni. The benefits are not only that you know you have a strong friendship that will probably last years but you get to travel and see different cities (or countries).

The Fizzle Out Friend
When you leave school/college you promise each other you'll see each other and stay in contact. But.. . this just doesn't happen You'll message each other a couple of times to make plans but barely follow through. It then tends to be limited to birthdays and Instagram comments where the reply is 'I miss you, its do something soon', even though you don't and you now you probably won't. Then the only time you end up seeing each other is when you bump into each other in the street and it's friendly but kind of awkward as you know you've grown apart.

The Aloof Friend
They're in the group chat but they're not really. You're probably on mute and they only reply when they want something or remember to occasionally check. They will show up to group plans maybe one in ten times and when they do they bring a great energy to the group because you have so much to catch up on. They eventually become the fizzle out friend **

Low Maintenance Friends
Possibly the best type of friend. No pressure and no guilt. No matter how much time passes, it's like nothing has changed. They're understanding when you can't always see them but when you do the conversation is natural and you find yourself catching up for hours. They're easy with plans and are up for doing anything.

THE 90'S ARE OFFICIALLY BACK

90's fashion has been making a come back over the years but it has officially landed. Think less Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears double denim, more Rachel Green and Monica Geller. When talking about 90's trends you HAVE to talk about Rachel Green. Famous for the Rachel haircut and her impeccable style. She made every single outfit look good, can anyone ever forget the plaid skirt and knee highs combo. Channelling some serious Cher Horowitz vibes.

Athleisure
Vintage brands like Champion have been making a comeback for a while with their oversized, branded jumpers; but some trends have slowly crept their way back in without us even realising their true 90s roots. Exercise wear moved into the everyday, from leotards/bodysuits worn with jeans, to trainers as a smart, everyday shoe like Reebok clubs and Converse. Another 90s trend thats made its way back into fashion more recently are cycling shorts. They're like that friend you didn't like at first but the more you saw them the more you liked them. Now I own 3 pairs and still want more despite the fact winter is fast approaching.

The Slip Dress
The slip dress over a tee makes a sexy but classy classic easily dressed up with some stilettos or down with some Stan Smith's. Urban Outfitter's 'Out From Under' range channels the idea of a slip dress. Something that looks like it is lingerie worn 'Out From Under'. It includes a range of items with this similar style from bodysuits to loungewear. I am in love with the Urban Outfitters Audrey A-line slip dress, it fits all body shapes beautifully and can be worn in most situations. Team a slip dress with the shoe that has made a comeback, going from the shoes that your mum wears to a summer must have. Of course it is the Birkenstock's. I still don't have a pair of these despite searching for the perfect pair for like 2 years. Why am I so picky??

Accessories
Accessories have also taken a trip back to the 90s, from cat eye and thin sunglasses to bags. I was unsure at first about the return of the Dior saddle bag until Aimee Song expressed her love for it and I knew I had to fall in love too. Now I can't get enough and want one so bad, even though it would put me in my overdraft. The bumbag is the real comeback kid; going from fashionable, to something people joke about, to a festival and gig essential. It would be my worst nightmare to leave my bumbag at home. My little second hand, black leather, vintage bum bag is a part of me now. Another bag that has been popular since the 90s is the Jansport backpack.

Free The Nipple
When I first watched Friends I couldn't help but notice Jenifer Anniston's nipples. I used think bloody hell it must be cold in that studio! And why isn't she wearing a bra??? But Green's iconic nips are now back in fashion. With the Free The Nipple Campaign bigger than ever, more women feel less pressure to wear a bra and feel shame in a protruding nip.

Denim
No one could work a mom jean as well as Monica Geller. One of her more iconic looks was her ripped jeans and red top combo, ripped jeans being another huge trend over the years. Can you forget Rachel Green's denim overall's? Nope. It's a look I've tried to pull off and failed so many times until Topshop released their denim pinafore dress. Now I look less like a frumpy boy and channel more of a cute summer vibe. For me, the official marking of the 90s return is double denim (no not Justin and Britney. Will we ever be able to unsee that?). But with the Topshop coloured co-ords and the MOM shorts and jacket co-ord which I am bloody loving at the moment. If you told me I'd be wearing double denim a year or so ago I'd of told you you're crazy.

What's your favourite 90s trend?

WHERE DO I GET MY MOTIVATION FROM?

Motivation comes in waves for me. Sometimes I'm one of the most motivated people you'll ever meet: I'll go to the gym, eat healthy, do my uni work as soon as I get it, see my friends, take photos for my blog and plan ideas. However, I also go through stages of serious de-motivation due to lack of progress, tiredness, stress and many other things. But who doesn't? I'm sure anyone who has had to revise in their lifetime will understand the word 'procrastination'. And I bet many of you, like me, think you're now a pro at it. When I don't see progress in the gym or work gets on top of me I find it so easy to give up.

So where do I find my motivation, especially when all I want to do is lay in bed?

Peers
I surround myself with positive people. Growing up I learnt that it's okay to lose contact with negative friends and, what I call, half friends (those friends who are flaky and not true friends). Keep those around you who are ride or dies and look out for you. However, you need to know which situation each friend is appropriate. Some are the best for partying or the needed girl advice but distract you way too much, and others make the best revision buddies.
I also am massively influenced by my friends styles on what to put on my blog and their personal style. But, this does often leads me down the rabbit hole of online shopping and justifying it with the classic 'It's for the blog' 🤦🏼‍♀️.
Two of my girls also have blogs (@yasminstefanie and @marbleousfood hit them up) and they give me advice and motivation on whats best for my blog whenever I need it.

Family
My parents always push me to do my best in school and my mum always made sure I stayed on track which I'm even more grateful for now. And my brothers and sisters are competition for doing better.

Other Blogs/Instagram
I think everyone is a victim of seeing something on instagram and then it being in your wardrobe within 3-5 working days, I am way too familiar with this routine (it's more like a ritual now). But my favourite brands and blogs on Instagram motivate me to make my blog better. The content, topics, where I take the pictures, and the theme. These include: obviously my girl Yasmin Stefanie, also India Moon, Alicia Roddy, Amelia Taylor, Aimee Song, The Little Plum, Cinziabayliszullo and so many more (basically all the blogs I follow).

Celebrities
We all have our style inspo and those celebs whose insta's and lives we are just too obsessed with. But this helps motivate me, drives my ambition to do better and reach my goals and inspires my blog from photos, backgrounds and clothes.
Mine include: Beyoncé because she is a fashion icon and could pull off a bin bag. I love Dua Lipa's style and often stalk her insta for clothes inspo. Despite the mixed feelings about the Khardasian/Jenner family you have to admit they slay fashion and their lifestyle makes me more than jealous. Rihanna doesn't even need an explanation, she slays everything and sets so many trends it's hard to keep count. Emily Ratajkowski's idgaf attitude and just way too cool to be my friend ever persona and style is a huge contributor to my shopping addiction.  Harry Styles and A$AP Rocky are, I think, two of the leaders in male fashion and they wear what ever the f**k they want and make it look good.
